What's New?

CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS
Our celebrations commence with a Deanery Mass on Saturday 16th August 2008 at 12 noon (100years after the first Mass at St Joseph's) . There will be refreshments afterwards in the hall.
Joy Warwick has written a book about the history of St Joseph's and this will be available for sale from August 16th. There will also be an exhibition of photographs and artefacts.
5th September Centenary Ball
28th September Parish Party
On Friday 10th October 2008 Bishop Patrick will concelebrate Solemn Mass with many priests who have been connected to St Joseph's. This Mass will be at 7pm followed by refreshments in the hall

The second collection at Masses today is for our own diocesan Catholic Caring Services. John Gildert, Promotion Manager of Catholic Services writes……
After the success of our appeal at Christmas time for the Crib Collection, which was set aside for our Community Projects, we would like your parishioners to consider Reaching Out to Older People by giving money in the Special Collection for a number of Services and Projects for older people that are supported and organised by our Agency.
By Reaching Out to Older People this year we will be helping to finance projects for older people as follows:-
- Our Bridging the Gap Project works with older people with acquired hearing loss and has offices in Lancashire and Cumbria.
- Our Vision in People Project provides a holistic service to learning disabled people who are 26+, with many in their 50s, 60s and even 70s, creating new opportunities for personal development.
- Our Supported Living Services assist and enable learning disabled people, many of whom are over 55 to live as independently as possible within their own home and local community.
- Our Community Projects, such as Marsh Agelink in Lancaster, Wesham Interact near Kirkham and Crosstracks in Maryport provide support, and educational & personal stimulus to those over 55.

"St Paul 2000 years on"
Pope Benedict has asked us to celebrate a year of St Paul, marking 2000 years since the saint's birth from today until 29 June 2009. Bishop Campbell's book (his first since being ordained bishop), is called 'The Greatest of these is Love', and features meditations on St Paul's writings. The book has been written to mark the year of St Paul and is published, appropriately enough, by St Paul's Books

To celebrate the Year of Paul, there will be a series of 6 talks at Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish Centre, St Alban's Rd at 7.30pm on the 1st Thursday of the month starting Oct 2nd 2008

THE HOLY FATHER’S MISSION INTENTION FOR JULY:
That World Youth Day in Australia may kindle the fire of divine love in young people, making them heralds of hope for a new humanity.
