Following on from the original development of the parish development team in 2002 and the subsequent briefing document in 2004, we have seen quite a lot of change in the way that the parish has evolved and manages itself.

A large part of this change has been the introduction of the parish council which brings together all the various groups within the parish to give an overall direction, and which now fulfills the co-ordination role previously carried out by the development team.

This has given us a real opportunity to review the role that the team plays within our parish, and provide us with a chance to focus our energies, whilst at the same time remaining true to the original mission statement of the group:

"To foster a Christ-centered, loving family community that shares responsibility for encouraging growth and development, offers opportunities for all to use their gifts to serve God and each other, and also reaches out to the wider community in which we live."

From this statement we can draw the four key activities of evangelisation, participation, support for the wider community and communication. Each of these can be fundamental in helping us to be effective and useful as a parish group, and have been used as focal points in the development of our action plan for 2008:

Evangelisation
Working closely with the spirituality group and developing ideas to help engage families, newcomers and lapsed.
Working together with churches of other denominations in our area to provide practical and spiritual support where possible.
Strengthening our links in the deanery and helping to ensure our parish is truly "Fit for Mission"

Participation
Searching for and identifying the widespread talents of parishioners who are willing to support the parish and actively encouraging their help to spread the load and grow with us as a community.

Supporting the wider community
Strengthening links with and providing practical support for the Cenacolo community in Kendal.
Supporting the Helping Hands charity in Blackpool through practical fund raising and raising awareness.
Developing a strong link and support network for the Grass Roots charity helping the families of those in prison.

Communication

Keeping parishioners in touch with the progress of the group through regular updating of the parish bulletins, quarterly newsletter, noticeboards, suggestion box and the parish website.
Encouraging comments and suggestions from all in the parish through the website, direct contact or the suggestion box.
Encouraging ideas and suggestions from all the parish groups to help us grow and develop as a complete parish.

It is hoped that through prayer and through practical application we can make a positive contribution to our parish life and we actively encourage help from anyone who feels able to give it in whatever measure they can. We would also very much appreciate you letting us have your ideas, suggestions or just thoughts, which can be passed on to the team through Greg Ormerod on 07903 587209, through the suggestion box at the back of church or by email: developmentteam@st-josephsansdell.net

We very much look forward to hearing from you!
