St Joseph’s Parish Liturgy Group

Minutes of the Liturgy Planning Group 3rd April 2008

Present: A.Cawthorn (Chair), P.Crean, A.Waters, J.O'Neil, C.O'Neil, R.Page, A.Zammit, C.Woods, P.Drake, M.Johnson.
Apologies: None

The meeting was opened with a reading from the Gospel according to St. John, followed by the prayer to the Holy Spirit.

Review of Lent and Easter Services.
Lent
Ash Wednesday: Feedback mixed, the distribution of the Ashes arranged in the evening, at the request of Churches Together, was appreciated by the other churches, but there had been negative feedback concerning the lack of an evening Mass. It was strongly felt that while we welcome other churches this should not be at the expense of our parishioner's views.
Taize Service had been enjoyed by Churches Together. Numbers attending are increasing.
Deanery Mass Went well, lots of positive comments.
Reconciliation Service. Numbers are growing.

Triduum and Easter
Several services were packed. Good Friday and Easter Sunday especially.
Holy Thursday service worked well, except for the reading from St John's Gospel. Next year we should encourage people to come and arrange better lighting or abandon.
Good Friday The singing by Andy Severin had resulted in many favourable comments, many people found it very moving. It was felt that the two styles of music with the Reproaches sung immediately afterwards may not work, and is something to consider next year.
Easter Vigil The lighting of the new fire in church worked well. We should repeat next year.
The thurible should not be put near the choir.
A.Zammit and the members of the choir were thanked for the excellent music, which added so much to all the services.
The group also wished to record our thanks to K.Moore and helpers for the beautiful decoration of the church.
Fr Harry had been asked for his comments on the services and had said he appreciated them and we should continue.
It was remarked just how many services very few people had planned, more members of the Parish need to be involved. A.Cawthorn will put a notice in the bulletin suggesting that if people enjoy the services and want them to continue, volunteers would be appreciated.

Future Plans
Ascension Thursday moved to Sunday. The Easter Cross is to be removed before the Sunday.
Pentecost Taize Service planned for Wednesday 7th May
Corpus Christi. Fr Harry to be asked if he wishes to recommision the Eucharistic Ministers.
The problems of the Eucharistic Minister's rota were discussed. MJ to contact the people involved.
Centenary Celebrations
Opening Mass is the 10th October Friday 7.00pm. Bishop Patrick will celebrate Mass. L.Kelly is inviting priests with a connection with the Parish to come.
We will ask Fr.Harry which readings are to be used and choir will then plan the music.
The first day of the Centenary Year is Saturday the 16th August there will be a midday Mass to celebrate. The priests of the deanery will be invited to attend.
We will plan for these services at the next meeting.

Bidding Prayers: 5/6th April AC, 12/13th April. CW, 19/20th April PDT, 26/27th April PC &AW, 3/4th May Faith and Light.
It was hoped in the future different groups would take responsibility for a Sunday each month.
Date of next meeting June 5th 7.30pm.
