1. Liz Kelly opened the meeting, welcomed everyone present and invited Fr Harry to say an opening prayer.
2. Minutes of the Last Meeting
2.1 The minutes of the last meeting were agreed, proposed by Michael Wren-Hilton
and seconded by Bill Drake.
2.2 There was one matter arising and Liz Kelly asked Joe Waters to provide the
meeting with an update on the installation of the new cooker in the hall kitchen.
Joe said that the installation and associated work would be completed by Friday
20th October. The new cooker has a 12 month warranty and would be operated by
manual ignition, (automatic ignition not permissible for legal reasons). Liz
Kelly thanked Joe for his efforts and he in turn extended thanks to Cathy Moore
and Arthur Bowyer who had both helped with the installation process.
3. Bishop Patrick's Pastoral Visit on 5th November
3.1 Catherine Holliday reported that catering arrangements were in place in
readiness for the visit. So far she has 10 volunteers and details will be finalised
at a meeting on Tuesday 17th October. The likely lunch menu will consist of
soup, buffet and dessert. Tea and cake will be served later in the afternoon
when the Bishop meets with the wider Parish.
3.2 Michael Wren-Hilton volunteered to collect Bishop Patrick from Wesham and
it was agreed that Liz Kelly would formally welcome Bishop Patrick and that
Bill Drake would read the selected passage from scripture.
3.3 The Programme would be revised to reduce the number of questions to be considered
in the group sessions and to allow more time for reviewing the output. (Action
EG)
3.4 At the suggestion of Michael Wren-Hilton, Anne Waters agreed to approach
John Pomfret to ask that the Papal flag is raised on the day. (Action AW)
3.5 Fr Harry suggested that Diocesan representatives in the Parish should be
invited to attend the lunch and afternoon discussions. It was agreed that Stephen
Moore (Diocesan Administrator) and Pauline Drake (Women Together in Lancaster)
be invited. (Action LK)
4. Centenary Year 2008
4.1 Liz Kelly asked for volunteers to form a Centenary Year Committee and for
ideas as to how the occasion might be celebrated. Anne Zammit, Anne Waters,
Joe Waters and Anne Coughlin all expressed an interest in being part of a committee
and the following ideas were suggested: Flower and Banner Festival, Parish Mission,
Parish Ball, Special fund raising project for a Charity, Involvement of the
children and youth.
4.2 It was agreed that the bulletin and quarterly newsletter should carry details
of the Centenary and invite those interested to come up with more ideas and
attend a meeting in January 2007. (Action EG)
4.3 Meanwhile members agreed to consult their groups to get their input. (Action
ALL)
4.4 Fr Harry reported that he is making arrangements to involve Bishop Patrick
and Archbishop Patrick Kelly in the opening and closing ceremonies. Fr Harry
left the meeting at this stage.
4.5 Bishop Patrick, in advance of his visit requested the completion of a questionnaire
which covered Mass attendance figures, parish population data, local housing
development plans and views on the number and timing of Sunday Mass. There was
a lot of discussion around the completion of this form and there was a clear
message from the meeting that St Joseph's should not volunteer the relinquishment
of any Sunday Mass, it was felt that each Mass was important and should be kept
for as long as possible.
5. Any Other Business
5.1 Due to work commitments Mike Zammit, Web Site representative, will be resigning
from this group and consequently his membership of the Parish Council. Mike
will consult with members of the Web Site team to secure a representative from
this team for the Parish Council. (Action MZ)
5.2 It was agreed to remind Parishioners that Parish Council meetings were open
to all, this would be done when notice of future meetings were advertised. (Action
EG)
5.3 Kate Golightly advised members that the Cafod Christmas Concert was in the
planning stages and volunteer "acts" and a volunteer "bingo caller"
were sought. Liz Kelly agreed to advertise the event in St Peter's School newsletter
5.4 Edwina Gillett, on behalf of the PDT, put forward a recommendation that
St Joseph's should no longer have an evening Mass on Holy Days celebrated on
a weekday. Whilst notice of this recommendation had been publicised in the last
quarterly newsletter it was noted that not many members had picked up on it.
A discussion then followed which: (a) rejected the recommendation, (on the grounds
that people not able to attend Mass during the day would be disadvantaged and
there was a preference to celebrate Mass in their home Parish rather than attending
elsewhere in the Deanery), and (b) requested that future recommendations of
this nature be publicised in the weekly bulletin and/or from the pulpit.
5.5 Members were asked to consult as widely as possible for feedback on the
new heating system. All comments should be passed to Tony Cross who now has
responsibility for the heating system. (Action ALL)
5.6 It was agreed that Parish Council meetings would from now on be held on
a Sunday and the following dates for 2007 were agreed:
14th January 2007
15th April 2007
8th July 2007
15 September 2007 (planning meeting for Parish AGM)
7th October 2007 - Parish AGM
Close
6. There being no further business Liz Kelly closed the meeting at 12:20pm
