Present:
Bill Cookson
Bill Drake
Edwina Gillett (Chair)
Jan O'Neill
Helen Shields
1) The opening prayer was led by Bill Cookson
2) Minutes of last but one meeting: these were agreed
3) Matters arising:
Database - Edwina spoke to Mike but he is currently ultra busy. Edwina said
that she would speak to him again about where he is up to.
Baptisms and weddings - as previous minutes
Advent Service - already done by Edwina
Our Lady Star of the Sea - Helen still to organise
Deacons- Bill said that he was finding it difficult to do but that he would
keep on trying
Good Neighbours - a note has been put in the bulletin
4) Facing up to the future
The meeting held in December came up with a draft survey. Edwina said that she
has written to every Parish Council member letting them know what we are doing
and that it will be done with their help. The surveys will be put at the back
of church this coming weekend and they will be given to Parish Council members.
The date for the return of completed surveys is 10th March.
(The Development team looked through the survey questions and agreed that they
were okay)
5) The Mass
The length of the 9.30 Mass was discussed and it was suggested that more could
be made of the Children's Liturgy part of the Mass. Helen said that she would
talk to Christine Woods about arranging a meeting of the Children's liturgy
team to discuss how to get the children out of church in a more formal manner.
It was suggested that we needed to strengthen ties with St Peter's and Our Lady's.
Father Harry said that he thought the Readers were good, the Choir were good,
and the Children's Liturgy was good. He wanted to pass on his appreciation to
the above three groups.
Edwina said that the services over Christmas were good especially the 11.30
Carol Service.
It was noted that the Liturgy Group have already discussed the length of the
9.30 Mass and as a consequence the sermon is shorter and the amount of singing
has been reduced. Father Harry said that there is not a lot more that can be
done!
6) AOB
Note for the records - Sr Anne has resigned.
7) The closing prayer was led by Bill Drake
Date of next meeting: Tuesday 14th Feb at 7pm
