Minutes of the meeting on the 30th November 2005

F. Dronsfield, Fr. Holden,
A. Waters, P. Crean, J. Pomfret, M. Johnson.
Apologies: E. Kelly, A. Jones, R. Page, W. Kruszynska.
C. Woods opened the meeting with an Advent meditation "Stay Awake".
Minutes of the last meeting were accepted
Christmas Services
C. Woods informed the meeting that the PDT had asked her to put a notice in
the bulletin saying there would be a Carol Service at 11.30pm on Christmas Eve,
followed by Midnight Mass, this was regrettably felt to preclude our intended
discussion, announced in the minutes of the last meeting of the type of service
we should have pre midnight. Members of the group had taken soundings from the
parish, however, and people did seem in favour of a Carol Service. It was therefore
agreed A. Waters, P. Crean, A. Cawthorn and M. Johnson would meet to plan a
Carol Service. (12th December 7.30pm).
The PDT also had informed C. Woods that the Christmas Day Masses would be at
9.30am (the Family Mass with Choir) and 11.00am. Fr. Harry confirmed the times
and said these were the times in the ecumenical information card, which is being
distributed in the area. It was noted the times given in the free local guides
distributed already were different, but no one knew how they had obtained the
incorrect information, as they had not approached the Parish directly.
A discussion took place as to how communication with the PDT could be improved
and it was decided to send a copy of the group minutes to the Chair of the PDT
directly via e-mail. C. Woods will also speak to the Chair of the PDT to ask
if there is a way in which they feel communication could be improved.
Christmas Masses Fr. Harry A. Cawthorn and P. Drake will meet and plan
the services. (13th December, after morning Mass.)
C. Woods will liase with D. Warwick regarding readers for the services
F. Dronsfield will organise the altar servers. K. Moore will carry the infant
to the crib.
B. Cawthorn will organise the ministers of the Eucharist.
Advent Reconciliation Service
C. Woods and M. Johnson shared a draft proposal with the group. It was decided
to change the examination of conscience, and Fr. Harry will prepare one based
on the proposed readings, which will be included in the booklet.
A final hymn was chosen, In the Lord I'll be ever thankful.
P. Crean will do the first reading.
It was decided to print 100 copies of the booklet. Fr Harry reminded the group
to spread the word about the service.
Length of Sunday 9.30 Mass.
Complaints had been received from a few families that this Mass was too long
for small children.
After some discussion, it was decided to:
· Ensure the Mass starts at the advertised time.
· Decrease the length of the sermon to <4.minutes.
· Dispense with the hymn after Communion and limit the number of verses
sung in the Entrance hymn
· Make no announcements other than to direct people to read those in
the bulletin.
The people who raised the criticisms will be informed of the action taken. The group will keep the situation under review.
Taize Service 7th December 7.00pm
A. Cawthorn informed the group that this had been planned.
K. Moore, C. Woods and J. Pomfret will read the O Antiphons.
People will be asked to help set the chairs out after the morning mass on the
7th. Anyone who wishes to help set out the drapes and candles was asked to come
to church at 6.00pm on the 7th.
A.O.B
Fr. Harry expressed the view that we should be more formal in our discussions,
and address each other through the Chair.
Decorating the Church for Christmas. F. Dronsfield asked the group to consider
who would do what this year. He has offered to negotiate the purchases of the
Christmas tree and more importantly it's disposal.
Crib, R. Cross will be asked if he can do this and Fr. Harry will confirm that
J. Nixon will do the small crib in the wall as usual.
Decoration of the Church. P. Crean, A. Waters and K. Moore will meet, (12th
December after morning Mass) to review. It is planned to decorate the church
on December 22nd.
Date of next meeting Wednesday14th December after the Reconciliation
Service.
