Notes of 37th Meeting held in the Presbytery on
Tuesday 6th September 2005 at 7.30
Present:
Bill Cookson
Edwina Gillett (Chair)
Jan O'Neill
Helen Shields
Sr Anne
1) Edwina opened the meeting with a prayer and welcomed everyone.
2) Minutes of Last meeting: these were accepted
3) Matters Arising:
Father Joe's Jubilee - Edwina said that it went very well and that Father Joe
had enjoyed it. Father Joe has announced his retirement and Edwina said that
she needed to discuss this with Father Harry when he returns.
Potential Diaconate Candidates - due to the summer holidays nothing has yet been done. The previously suggested names were discussed and a new name was put forward. Edwina suggested that Bill Drake be asked to speak to them.
Registrars - this issue needs to be moved forward in light of Father Joe's retirement. Helen said that she would speak to Father Harry about it. (It was suggested that the bulletin team put Baptisms and Weddings in the bulletin - Edwina said that she would speak to them).
Parish Administration Team - Edwina reported that 2 meetings had so far taken place and they had established a long list of jobs in the Church and the house, which the team would work through although they would make the heating in the church a priority. The team is up and running and working well although they are short of a Vice-Chair and Secretary. This will be addressed at their next meeting on 4th October.
Parish Council - their first meeting will be on 7th October. 4 nominations were received and so a vote will be needed. Each candidate will prepare a statement, which will, along with a voting slip, will be ready for the weekend of 24th September.
The database will be ready at the end of September. This can then be populated with the information collected in the census.
A skills audit still needs to be done.
Helen still needs to talk to the Children's Liturgy Group about carrying the book and banner again.
Jan said that she had spoken to Pat Ormond re a Youth Group Liturgy and she decided that they could do one once a term. It was decided that Jan should tell Pat to talk to the Liturgy Group about it.
Helen said that she has spoken to Jan Hornby at Our Lady Star of the Sea and that she would work out a way of getting the information into the bulletin.
The Memorial stone, Edwina has asked the Liturgy Group if the dedication can be included in the All Souls service.
4) Deciding Focus and Priorities for next 6 months
Edwina said that Father Joe's retirement raises lots of issues that need to
be discussed. The number of Sunday Masses may need to be addressed as might
the 2 Masses on Friday.
There was then a discussion about what could be done to make our Parish more "Business Orientated". Could something be done to the house to make it pay for itself? Do we need a place that provides proper offices, a prayer/quiet rooms that are more up to date?
5) A.O.B.
Jan reported on the 5 Churches in Ansdell meeting that she attended on Father
Harry's behalf:
- She said the St Joseph's were the only church to pick a hymn for the
Songs of Praise service, which is on 25th September at the Methodist
Church.
- Jan said that the times of the Christmas services were needed by the next
meeting as Graham's church will print the leaflets themselves and need
time to set it out. They want to do the leaflet drop before December and once
we receive our allocated roads we will then organise our leaflet drop.
Edwina said that she would talk to Father Harry about the Christmas
Services.
- The Advent Service will be on 1st December at St Paul's Church at
7.30pm. Edwina said that she would tell the Bulletin team.
- On 15th Feb 2006 St Paul's will be hosting a Conference of priests and
wanted to know if our church could be open. It was agreed that it could.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday 18th October at 7.30pm.
