St Joseph’s Parish Liturgy Group

Minutes of meeting held on Wednesday 10th November at 7.00pm

1. Fr Harry opened the meeting with a prayer and welcomed all present.

2. Anne Cawthorn welcomed Liz Kelly and appreciated her involvement and input to the planning group with particular regard to St. Peter's Primary School.

3. Minutes and Matters arising:
Minutes agreed and accepted. No matters arising other than those to be dealt with under Agenda items.

4. Progress reports:
a. Devotions for Holy Souls- A basket has been provided and the names of the deceased have been put into it. This has been placed on the altar rather than on the credence table with the gifts of bread and wine as decided at the last meeting. It was agreed that, as from now, the basket will be taken up to the altar with the gifts of bread and wine at the offertory. The credence table will be returned to the its former position in the centre of the aisle. Fr. Joe is to be informed of these arrangements. (Action F. Dronsfield). Mass will be said for those parishioners who have died during the year on Saturday 27th November 6.00pm. Notice of this with a list of the deceased is to be put in the bulletin for two previous weeks previously. (Action A. Waters, M.Johnson, A. Jones)
b. Feast of Christ the King November 21st: Youth are to plan and lead the liturgy. This will now take place at the Sunday 5.05 pm Mass. The youth will provide readers and bidding prayers and music for this Mass. 9.30am Mass - The Children's Liturgists will arrange for readers and the children will write some Bidding prayers. Saturday 6.00pm Mass - The Bidding Prayers written by the Youth will be read at this Mass by the reader nominated on the rota. (Action A. Wormleighton, P. Ormond, C. Woods)
c. Parish Service of Reconciliation - preparations are in hand. Details to be given at the next meeting. (Action M. Long, M. Johson, A. Cawthorn)

5. Advent: - The Advent wreath and the Advent banners are to be put into church for the First Sunday of Advent - Sunday 27th November (Action P.Drake). Consideration to be given to purchasing more of the booklets with mediations for Advent that were used last year (Action R.Page). Possibility of a Taize evening in early December. Musicians to be asked if available (Action P. Crean, A. Cawthorn). Thursday 2nd December at 7-30pm. Churches Together - Advent Ecumenical Service to be held at the White Church. Monday 20th December at 7.00pm - St. Peter's School are to hold an Advent service in church followed by seasonal refreshments in the hall. Children's Liturgy to focus on Advent. This year there will be a change from the format used during the last few years which has centred on the Jesse Tree. The Youth Club are to prepare a collage to be put up in church at Christmas time (Action P. Ormond).

6. Forward Planning: Churches Together Lenten Liturgies - to be discussed at the next meeting.

7. Eucharistic Ministers: Meeting held on Tuesday 9th November with Fr. Harry who gave encouragement to ministers and emphasised that it was important for ministers to pray with the sick. New arrangements for the rota were explained.

8. Liturgy Group Decisions: It was agreed that any decisions made by the group should stand, be implemented and not changed. Any new initiatives or changes to the liturgy should be introduced through the bulletin and through announcements at Mass.In future, Fr. Harry is to give out any notices and draw attention to important items in the bulletin at the end of Mass before the final blessing. (Action A.Cawthorn, A. Waters)

9. A.O.B.
Some discussion took place about the Prayer Board at the back of the church. Consideration to be given to suggestions as to how this may be kept up to date and what should eventually be done with the petitions. Some resource books for planning liturgy have been purchased and are available for use. They will be kept in the cupboard in the meeting room (Action A.Cawthorn, A. Waters).
The meeting closed with a prayer at 8.10 pm.
