Notes of eighteenth meeting held in the Presbytery on Thursday 11th March 2004 at 8:00pm
Present:
Anne Cawthorn
Bernard Cooper
Bill Drake
Edwina Gillett (notes)
Kath Hallion
Margaret Kelly
Paul Kelly (chair)
Wanda Kruzsynska
Fr Aidan Turner
Apologies:
Bill Cookson
1. Paul opened the meeting and welcomed those present.
2. Bernard then led a prayer & a period of reflection on Luke 9:28-36.
3. Notices Co-ordinators: Anne to liaise with the Notice Co-ordinators to help
develop ideas for improved presentation of communications.
4. Local Strategic Partners: Fr. Aidan reported that this group had been formed
to plan for local community needs, he will attend the next meeting to get a
better understanding of the role that St Joseph's might play and report back
at the next meeting.
5. Mass Leaflets: By way of a trial "The Message" rather than "Sunday
Plus" will be used from early April. "The Message" on the same
lines as "Sunday Plus" will provide the opportunity to combine all
Sunday literature (including the Mass readings and bulletin) in one handout.
Paul will liaise with the Bulletin Team about the format change.
6. Hall Strategy: The Strategy has now been agreed and is appended below.
7. Youth Forum: The original meeting for 16 - 20yrs was not well attended. Deacon
Michael will try again on by issuing personal invitations to those in range
and invite them to a meal which he will cook and serve himself.
8. Development Team Retreat: Confirmed for 9 May, location is probably going
to be the Tabor centre, Wanda co-ordinating venue etc., Edwina to provide Dympna
McGee with back copies of Notes, Parish vision etc.,
9. Census: Other local Churches generally in favour. Further discussions with
other Churches later this month. Meanwhile, Paul to produce a draft Census form,
Fr. Aidan to draft a suitable letter to accompany the Census form, Edwina to
check out Freepost costs. Fr Aidan and Kath will then present all the information
at the next Churches in Ansdell meeting to get final approval.
10. Deanery Pastoral Council: The Bishop is keen that each Deanery has a Pastoral
Council. Representation still to be decided but likely to consist of clergy
and laity with possibly 2 representatives from each Parish. Probably will involve
3 meetings a year.
11. Listening 2004 (National Survey into Married Life): To be launched after
Easter.
12. Deacon Michael following his Ordination on 17 April will celebrate Mass
at St Joseph's over the weekend of 25 April.
13. Presidential Chair: Feedback suggested that the position of the Chair in
front of the high Altar was too remote though the central position was preferred.
The Chair will be moved to a position in front of the main Altar for a trial
period.
14. Date of Next Meeting: Tuesday 30th March at 8:00pm.
15. The meeting closed at 9:45 with a prayer
Parish Hall Strategy
To support the Parish vision in developing a Christ -centered loving family community that shares responsibility for encouraging growth and development, offers opportunities for all to use their gifts to serve God and each other and also reaches out to the wider community in which we live.
By:
(In descending order of priority)
Providing facilities for Parish led activities
Allowing individual members of our Parish community to hold private functions
Community outreach: providing facilities for an agreed activity that reaches out to the wider community eg play group, coffee mornings, young parents, social services/learning, disabled
To grow revenue from the lease of the facilities
Most Parish led activities are in the evening or at week-ends, so no bookings should be taken at those times that prevent Parish use. At other times, in the event of conflicting demands, no commitment should be entered into without reference to the Parish Priest who will make a decision having regard to the Parish vision and, if necessary, after discussion with the development team and other interested parties.
