- Fr Aidan opened the meeting and welcomed those present.
- A period of reflection on Mark 10 35:45 then followed.
- House Groups: 9 people have volunteered to host a House Group and the volunteers
are currently preparing for the launch of these groups, their next meeting
is on 3 November. Fr Aidan/Deacon Michael will speak about House Groups at
weekend Masses in the near future and there will be handouts available to
take away before people are invited to express their interest in joining one
of the groups. Both daytime and evening groups will be available.
- Parish Assembly: This will be a half day event on Sunday 9 November and
will be facilitated by Dympna McGee. The purpose of the assembly will be to
review progress over the last 12 months, seek comments and ideas, agree the
Parish vision for the next 12 months and finally refresh (through discernment)
the Parish Development Team. It is expected that the assembly will open at
12 noon with soup and a roll before getting down to business at 12:45 and
closing at 16:45. As details are firmed up appropriate notices will be placed
in the bulletin.
- Youth Group: Hugely popular but experiencing a few teething problems which
will be addressed by the leaders and those who attend the Group at their next
meeting. The annual sponsored youth walk through the Illuminations will take
place at 18:00 Thursday 23 October. A 49 seater coach has been ordered but
so far there has been limited take up. This event will be pushed in the bulletin
this weekend.
- Flag pole: Thanks to the generosity of one of our parishioners we now have
a flag pole which has been erected in front of St Joseph's statue. It was
hoped that a Papal flag would arrive in time to celebrate the Pope's silver
jubilee on Thursday 16 October.
- Hall renovation: This was proceeding well and those involved are hopeful
that the renovation and refurbishment would be completed in time for the Casino
night on 1 November. A number of people have volunteered to undertake different
jobs to get the Hall ready but many more will be needed to give the Hall a
thorough clean. Volunteers are asked to leave their names in the Parish Development
Team Box at the back of Church. It was recognised that the project was now
overspent so it will be necessary to consider ways of raising funds.
- Offer of Facilities: Sr Carmella of Stella Matutina would like the convent
to become a more integral part of Parish life. Sr has offered meeting rooms
and the convent Chapel for Parish groups to consider using. We are most grateful
for this very kind offer.
- Correspondence: A letter left in the Parish Development Box asked the Team
to consider ways of promoting worship to the Blessed Sacrament outside the
celebration of the Mass. There is exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from
11:00 - 12:00 every Saturday and it is planned to increase the opportunity
during Advent. The Team would welcome ideas on this theme.
- Web Site - It is hoped over the next few months to refresh the site and
the Team would welcome ideas on this. The site has been entered from as faraway
as New Zealand and has reunited Jayne Thornton nee Wilkin with a lot of happy
memories of her life in St Joseph's before emigrating to NZ about 30 years
ago.
- Date of Next Meeting: Tuesday 11 November at 8:00pm
- The meeting closed at 9:45 with a prayer.
